Friedrich Moosbrugger

German, 1804-1830

Friedrich Moosbrugger was born in 1804 in Germany. He was a German genre and portrait artist working in the realist style of the early 19th century. He first studied art with his father Wendelin Moosbrugger who was Court Painter for Frederick 1st of Wurttemberg, then went on to study at the Munich Academy of Fine Art. He later moved to Rome where he painted with a group of German and Austrian artists during the first quarter of the 19th century. He died in 1830.

Vittoria Caldoni was an Italian woman from Albano most favoured as a sitter by several of the German artists working in Italy at this time.
