Grandjean-Jourdan 'Faux Bois' Ceramic Centerpiece Vallauris, 1960s
By Grandjean Jourdan
Located in Tilburg, NL
Grandjean-Jourdan 'Faux Bois' Ceramic Centerpiece, Vallauris, France, 1960s. Fantastic ceramic centerpiece by pottery artist Eugène Grandjean for his family company Grandjean-Jourdan of the French pottery village Vallauris. Located in the Alpes-Maritimes department, Vallauris is home to some of the best pottery in the country. The pottery of Vallauris has been produced for centuries, with some of the earliest pieces being found in the ruins of the nearby Roman villa. The town itself has a rich history that dates back to the 12th century, when it was part of the County of Provence. Over the years, the craft of pottery has been passed down from generation to generation, and today it is still a major part of the local culture and economy. Vallauris pottery is known for its vibrant colors and unique shapes. The pottery is made from clay that is sourced from the nearby valleys, where it is mixed with other minerals to create different colors and patterns. The pottery is then hand-shaped and decorated with intricate designs. Many pieces are also glazed, giving them a rich, glossy finish. The local pottery...
