Gumps 1950 Vintage Nephrite Green Jade Bangle Bracelet Mounted 14Kt Yellow Gold
By Gump's San Francisco
Located in Miami, FL
Green nephrite jade bracelet retailed by Gump's. Beautiful vintage piece made after the post war, circa 1950 by the iconic San Francisco store known as Gump's. This bangle bracelet was crafted in solid yellow gold of 14 karats with high polished finish and mounted with a pair of carvings of natural non dyed green nephrite jade. It is suited with an invisible hinge and a push boxed lock with a pair of figures 8 for extra safety. Has a total weight of 42.7 Grams and the inside diameter is 177.8 mm or 7 Inches (17.95 Cm). The exterior diameter is 76.2 mm and the width measure is 10 mm. Stamped with the maker's mark, the hallmark for the assay of the gold and signed, "GUMPS 14KT .585". Gump's is an iconic luxury American home furnishings and home décor retailer. The S & G Gump was founded in 1861 in San Francisco, California as a mirror and frame shop by Solomon Gump and his brother, Gustav. It later sold moldings, gilded cornices, and European artwork to those recently made wealthy from the California Gold Rush. The business flourished; the store sold products ranging from jewelry made from jade, precious gemstones, and cultured freshwater pearls to products from luxury designers such as Hermès and Buccellati. Customers included Franklin D. Roosevelt, who bought model ships and smoking jackets. Note: The jade was once considered more precious than gold, jade has been more highly prized in Asia than any other gemstone. Treasured for thousands of years, it represents harmony, balance and protection, and is thought to bring good luck to the wearer. Though it's always difficult to obtain genuine vintage Gump...

Gump's Jade Necklace, circa 1960s
By Gump's San Francisco
Located in Southbury, CT
The luminous untreated jadeite jade beads that compose this 20" necklace are so faintly light green, that they appear white. Well, but not white; not really, because they are far too fascinating to be merely white like a piece of paper or a sheet. It is as if an apparition has assumed bead form and settled around the neck. These gorgeous, succulent beads seem filled with a reserve of light they have gathered during the day in order to release back into the night like a whisper. If you like pearls but wish for something denser, more grounded in the material world, these may be for you. They do look like pearls from a distance, a pristine strand of vintage cultured Akoya pearls. But then, up close, what are they? White sapphires? What could they be? Most people, of course, have no idea jade is anything other than green. The individual beads measure approximately 8.5mm for a clean, unified presentation around the neck. I am a second-generation collector of jade and have loved Gump's jade jewelry all my life. Gump's was an iconic San Francisco department store that was founded in the 19th century and awed the world with their remarkable and unique pieces until 2005 when they were sold. Gump's never used any dyed or treated jade in any of their jewelry, so they remain one of very few brands that you never need to have tested; vintage Gump...
