'Liquid' Green Kuken Pendant Light with Wood Frame by Hillsideout
By Hillsideout, Rossana Orlandi
Located in Milan, IT
This series celebrates color and its uniqueness when combined with transparent materials like resin, and, in this case with bakelite - an early plastic developed in New York in 1907. Farm lamps built in the Sixties for heating newborn chicks in the coop are transformed into elegant and simple contemporary lighting. Made of Bakelite, the lamp is covered with colored resin and supported by a handcrafted wooden structure. The shape of the wooden frame is a hexagram and each side has a 30 degree angle. This is the work of fine carpentry.
Materials: Bakelite, Alder, Walnut, Cherry, Chestnut and Lebanon...

'Futbolin' Foosball Game Table in Blended Woods by Hillsideout
By Hillsideout, Rossana Orlandi
Located in Milan, IT
Alexandre de Fisterra - known as the inventor of the foosball table - was 17 years old (probably the same age as the boys playing in the mountains) when he was severely wounded in one of the bombings of Madrid during the Spanish Civil War. After the bombings, he was transferred to Montserrat and the hermit monks in the ancient monastery situated in the Pyrenees. Back then, the Abbey of Montserrat was seen as a sanctuary of scholars, artists, politicians and students. In Montserrat, he met numerous mutilated children, especially those injured and disabled in the lower limbs. "None of them", Alejandro Finisterre thought, "could play football anymore".
At that point he had a brilliant intuition: starting from the table tennis, he invented the futboli´n, the modern football...

Sand Senses Cupboard in Wood by Hillsideout
By Hillsideout, Rossana Orlandi
Located in Milan, IT
The Sand Senses cupboard features materials made with sand and surface that stimulate senses when touched. Sand seems to have no limit. Burnt sand makes the Murano glass transparent. Concrete incorporates more than one type of sand - one comes from the river and the other one has been transformed through a chemical process. Wood is sandblasted and treated with oil-wax to obtain the smoothest surface possible. Geometric shapes can be found in the concrete legs, in the cupboard doors, as well as on the top enriched with openings in colored Murano glass. With its four colorful doors, two drawers and several shelves, this piece turns out to be a very aesthetically pleasing and practical cupboard; representing the perfect solution for both storing and showcase use...

Crooked Balance House in Wood by Hillsideout
By Hillsideout, Rossana Orlandi
Located in Milan, IT
The Crooked furniture collection is the result of Hillsideout’s ongoing research on the opposition between construction and destruction. The continuous architectural transformation of historical buildings leads to the idea of an organic furniture collection. Every piece emphasizes the leitmotiv ‘I don’t fall’, combines contradictory elements and often features curved elements. Mainly made of acrylic on a wooden structure, the Crooked Balance House is almost completely transparent. Two little wooden doors appear in front, revealing materials such as Italian walnut, cherrywood and colored Murano glass. Four wooden columns from 1820 become unusual bent legs by applying an old restoration technique. Ironically, this technique is normally used for straightening damaged table legs. In this way the restoration process becomes visible. The black resin poured over...
