Ides Kihlen Art
Argentinian, b. 1917
des Kihlen (b. 1917, Argentina) emerged onto the Buenos Aires art scene in her early 80s. She studied at the National School of Decorative Arts in Buenos Aires while simultaneously pursuing music. She also trained with artists such as Emilio Pettoruti, Juan Batlle Planas, Pío Collivadino, and André Lhote. While Kihlen’s work is mostly non-figurative, many of her compositions contain references to music such as hovering keyboard-like forms, clefs, and staves. Her color palette is generally reserved; however, her works exude vibrant, playful energy, and seemingly present windows into new dimensions where forms float freely through space. Kihlen has exhibited her artwork in South America, North America, and Europe.(Biography provided by Hutchinson Modern)

PWW-777 - Eric Mack - Contemporary Abstract Collage Painting Based off the Grid
Located in Signal Mountain, TN
PWW-777 is part of Eric Mack's ongoing body of work utilizing multi-media, complex compositions, and a grid centered around urban design. Using a grid to create the framework of the painting, Mack has utilized Zerox copies adhered by a matte medium to create graphic imagery of electronics from the 90s, small bits of a map of various places in Germany, and vinyl records. Mack paints on top of a torn canvas, and on the edges you can see the frayed, painted canvas mounted to the white backing of the frame. The work is finished with glass that shows minimum reflection as well as a customized 2 inch, white frame.
Eric Mack (b.1976, Charleston) creates mathematically based renderings with a distinct post-modern twist. Works are informed with super imposed grids, patterns, and portals. Layered surfaces are created with paint, found objects, natural fibers, and synthetic substrates that explore the systems of our visual world.

Artist’s Statement:
I was born in Eagletown, Oklahoma to Southern Baptist parents, and my father was a preacher. We were two boys and six girls in the family. The most mundane things were magical and special to me. I liked to draw, color, make things, and plant things. I loved the woods and the earth, and watching storms with thunder and lightning.
We moved from Oklahoma when I was 11. In the late 1950s, I attended Oakland Technical High School where I met artist Sam Richardson...

This work is a part of the "Chaos and Control Theory" Series - the artist's signature series.
It was created with the pages from an Oxford Dictionary of Quotations. This technique gives a special character to the work - you can play with it by asking questions, pointing to any part of the work, and you will get a meaningful phrase or a word. The work has blue and white colors. Great for the modern interior.
The work is unstretched and will be shipped in a roll.
--
"Chaos and Control Theory" Series is about depth and space. It’s about information overload, and what information looks like when you take out a meaning. I create lots of layers, using found materials and printed materials. I do an abstract expressionism painting on a surface first before I apply the printed and found materials. And then I begin to organize the surface, ultimately thinking about balance and flow and how the piece is going to contribute to the space it is going to be hanging in.
