French Decorative Ceramic Vase by Jean-Claude Courjault '1961'
By Jean Claude Courjault
Located in London, GB
French decorative ceramic vase by Jean-Claude Courjault (1961). A diminutive piece with a narrow mouth and vibrant colour sets this beautiful vase apart from his other, more usual, darker works. The piece was created with a delicate sky blue enamel with craqueleur effect and is complimented by a chocolate brown band around the centre with geometric shapes exposing windows of the blue enamel. The piece is in overall good condition. It is signed and dated on the underside. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request a video will be provided. About the Artist: Jean-Claude Courjault is a well-known French ceramicist born on May 29, 1943, in Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, France. He grew up in a family of artisans and was exposed to the world of ceramics from a young age. This early exposure instilled in him a passion for the art, and he pursued it as a career. Courjault studied ceramics at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d'Art in Paris. He completed his studies in 1965 and started working as a ceramicist. His work was soon noticed by prominent art collectors and galleries, and he began exhibiting his pieces in solo and group shows across France. Courjault's style is characterised by his use of colour and texture. He uses a variety of techniques to create pieces that are both visually striking and technically impressive. His work ranges from functional pieces like plates, bowls, and vases to sculptural forms that explore the boundaries of the medium. Courjault has received numerous awards and accolades for his work. In 1977, he was awarded the prestigious Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris. He has also been awarded the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, one of the highest honours given to artists in France. Today, Courjault's work can be found in collections around the world. His pieces are highly sought after by collectors and are considered to be among the most important works of contemporary French ceramics...
