Original Oil on Canvas by Jose Salazar Ruiz Esparza signed by the artist lower left. The work presents in the original frame and is in excellent condition. Created circa 1960's. The painting measures 8" H x 16" W. The frame measures 13 3/4" H x 21 1/2" W. Jose Salazar (1920-2006) was born in the city of Aguascalientes. His father was a weaver and promoter of cockfighting. Because he was the oldest of his 14 siblings. From childhood he spent his time drawing and painting. At the age of 13, he won an honorable mention and a diploma in the Feria Nacional de San Marcos in his native city of Aguascalientes. In 1946 he came to Mexico City and in 1953 he enrolled in the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda" as a regular student. Here is where he obtained his degree as a painter and sculptor in 1957. During this period, he was elected General Secretary of the Society of students. In 1955 he began to exhibit in the garden of the Art Sullivan. He was elected to two terms as president of the Association of Painters (1963 to 1965).
