Mark Gaskin Art
Mark Gaskin is a Postmodern painter born in 1956 in Winnipeg, Canada who blends the effects of ancient fresco and mural art with contemporary subject matter. His fascinating technique – in which his painting surfaces are purposefully distressed – conjures the textures of Prehistoric cave painting, ancient Roman painting and Renaissance fresco painting. Gaskin deploys a number of methods and materials to achieve his surfaces, among them rolling up canvases prepared with gesso that’s dried to create craquelure. He then mixes his paints with wax to soften bright pigments – a technique known as encaustic.

Jeremy Prim creates each painting by using many thin layers of translucent oil paint tempered with cold wax. This process washes the artwork with a sense of foreshortening, bringing the viewer into the vastness of Prim’s subject.
Prim is based in Seattle, Washington, and is inspired by his surroundings: “The paintings I create are evocative of the Pacific Northwest coast” states the artist. While referentially specific the paintings capture more than a singular scene “They are a collective of physical and sensory reinterpretations of the Pacific, primarily derived from memory and intuition.”
