Rare Seven-Piece Louis XIV Style Giltwood Salon Suite from France, circa 1880
Located in Dallas, TX
This majestic giltwood Chateau salon suite is from France and dates to circa 1880. There are four side chairs, two armchairs (fauteuils), and a canapé. All have square baluster legs and volute x-stretchers. All the wood has been richly sculpted and gilded, and motifs include scrolls, foliage, rinceaux, palmettes, beading, acanthus leaves and more. The armrests of the fauteuils and canapé are supported by large lion muzzles. The side chairs and canapé are all supported by cross stretchers, while the bright yellow upholstery is more recent, attached by large brass nailheads. The motifs are musical trophies encircled by foliate and floral motifs. French furniture of this style would have been first produced during the reign of Louis XIV, toward the end of the 1600s. A magnificent 19th century suite...

Suite of Three Fully Restored Minty Oxford Legal Library Stacking Bookcases
By Minty of Oxford
Located in GB
We are delighted to offer for sale this lovely suite of three early circa 1920 fully restored Minty oxford stacking legal bookcases in solid oak made in the Art Deco style
A very good looking and well-made set, there were a number of companies making this type of bookcase in the late Victorian era up to present day, the finest are by far and away made by Minty. The quality of the craftsmanship is simply out of this world, each door can be opened and rested at any point and it doesn’t move, they are perfectly balanced, the doors have ball bearing clamps which neatly depress to hold the door in place
As mentioned these are modular stacking bookcases so you can buy other sections that are the same and make them larger or if you have a small space to fill remove a section to make it smaller
Condition wise for the era is sublime, they have each been fully stripped back and French polished from the ground up
These are an Art Deco style set, the handles are rectangle and the tops have Manhattan style timber...

Rare Pair of Victorian Minty Oxford Triple Bank Library Stacking Legal Bookcases
By Minty of Oxford
Located in GB
We are delighted to offer for sale this lovely and exceptionally rare pair of Victorian Minty oxford stacking legal bookcases in solid oak
A very good looking and well made pair, there were a number of companies making this type of bookcase in the late Victorian era up to present day, the finest are by far and away made by Minty. The quality of the craftsmanship is simply out of this world, each door can be opened and rested at any point and it doesn’t move, they are perfectly balanced, the doors have ball bearing clamps which neatly depress to hold the door in place
As mentioned these are modular stacking bookcases, I have never seen triple bank stacking bookcases before and never on this scale, each section is double the size of normal stacking bookcases with height adjustable shelves, usually the sections are so small you can only fit very low narrow books, with these you have significantly more versatility. You can actually remove the middle section of one of these and add it to the other one so you have one very large bookcase...

Questions About Furniture
- What is a white Oxford shirt?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertMarch 15, 2024A white Oxford shirt is a white dress shirt or casual sports shirt made of Oxford cloth, which is a durable and heavily structured fabric that consists of multiple weft threads that cross over an equal number of warp threads. Oxford cloth is said to have originated in a Scottish mill during the 19th century. The popularization of the Oxford cloth button-down shirt style, which is commonly abbreviated as OCBD, has been traced to when Brooks Brothers president John Brooks witnessed a polo match in England back then. He was so compelled by the fact that the players’ shirt collars were fastened to their shirts with buttons that he returned to the States and created a shirt design informed by the players’ garments. Oxford shirts now come in all kinds of colors and prints. On 1stDibs, shop a variety of shirts.
