Oris Robertson Animal Paintings
American, 1937-2002
Oris Robertson was born in 1937 in Presidio, Texas, across the border from Ojinaga and Chihuahua. He was a prolific visual artist; Robertson’s family moved to Brownsville when he was 8 and he started drawing and painting soon after, in the mid-1940s. He studied commercial art at Texas Southmost College and earned a degree in fine arts in 1968.

Substantial and period portrait of a beautiful spaniel done in charcoal signed "Lee" on verso, c.1913-1917. Although this is by an unknown artist it is an excellent example of Philadelphia Sketch Club quality drawing. Displayed in a distressed black vintage wood frame with mat. This is a lovely mixed media painting by popular Philadelphia based artist, Tom Judd. Provenance: Estate of Patrick Eddington. Patrick Eddington was a Utah school teacher who had the improbable idea of writing to his favorite artists and asking them to draw or paint pictures of cats. “This project is a labor of love," Eddington wrote of his endeavor in a 2004 letter. “It will culminate as a large book and traveling exhibition. It will also help Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. I’ve asked individuals I admire to create cat-related works. They are not the typical cat images but creative works.” Patrick Eddington passed away in early 2016 and his vision was, unfortunately, never realized.
