Vision of Frank Lloyd Wright by Thomas a. Heinz Hardcover Book 1st Edition
By Frank Lloyd Wright
Located in North Hollywood, CA
The Vision of Frank Lloyd Wright. by Thomas A. Heinz large heavy hardcover coffee table book. A Complete Guide To The Designs Of An Architectural Genius. Frank Lloyd Wright's career, sometimes tragic, sometimes tempestuous - at all times creative - has been examined and reexamined in numerous studies and articles both during his lifetime and since his death in 1959, which occurred shortly before the completion of his most famous project, New York's Guggenheim Museum. Virtually every structure that Wright built is represented in this extensive survey of his life's work. His genius at architectural design enable him to work out extremely complex buildings in his head and translate them on to paper in a matter of hours, as the famous story of his design presentation of Falling Water illustrates. His work continues to draw great admiration and interest to this day. His often tempestuous and sometimes tragic life and career are given full coverage in this book. Hundreds of photos, both archival and recent chart his amazing work and influence on all who followed. This concise consideration of Wright's life and work not only offers new insights into the character of this complex, powerful and at all times confident personality, but also the architectural legacy he left behind and which exists to this day in the vast number of homes and public buildings photographed...

Mediterranean Design Book by Mary Whitesides 1st Edition, 2006
Located in North Hollywood, CA
Mediterranean Design hardcover – August 17, 2006. by Mary Whitesides (Author). Title: Mediterranean Design Publisher: brand: Gibbs Smith Publication date: 2006 Binding: Hardcover Great hardcover coffee table book. Mediterranean Design reveals the vibrant color, outdoor-living emphasis, and diverse cultural influences that have created this unique style. Defined by an eclectic mix of natural elements: sunlight bouncing across textured walls, rooms arranged around porch-lined courtyards, terra-cotta tile roofs covering wood-beam ceilings, arched passages and porticos, vibrantly colored interiors, and courtyards and fountains that take advantage of the temperate climate. Mediterranean Design brings home the romantic and worldly appeal of a style that finds its heritage in the diverse lands of Morocco, Spain, Greece, Turkey, France, and Croatia. Mediterranean Design highlights the unique aspects of the style, such as spatial orientation of the rooms is defining and private vestibules and porches rather than hallways connecting functional spaces, bedrooms as suites rather than lonely rooms, bathrooms as spas rather than generic or merely functional rooms. Details such as arches, pillars, high ceilings, fountains, gardens, pergolas, lime-washed walls, stone façades...

Van Gogh a Retrospective 1986 1st Edition
By Vincent van Gogh
Located in North Hollywood, CA
Van Gogh a Retrospective 1986 1st edition. Large beautiful heavy hardcover coffee table book. New York: Hugh Lauter Levin Associates, 1986. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. Very Good in a Very Good dust jacket. Dimensions:13.50 X 10.5 X 1.50 inches. * Publisher ‏ : ‎ Hugh Lauter Levin Associates; First edition. (January 1, 1986) * Language ‏ : ‎ English * Hardcover ‏ : ‎ 385 pages Synopsis: This is a very useful book. If you are interested only in the reproductions (good drawings as well as paintings), you will enjoy their high quality--and the breadth of Vincent's work that they cover. If you are interested in primary resources about van Gogh's life--newspaper articles; letters and reminiscences from friends, fellow artists, relatives--this volume is a real treasure. Between the excellent reproductions and the extraordinarily fine collection of biographical materials, this must be the best one-volume source on van Gogh. By the time he died in 1890 at the age of thirty-seven Vincent van Gogh had painted hundreds of pictures, yet sold only a few. Today his paintings sell for millions of dollars each, and his life as an artist is legendary. He is the quintessential modern artist, operating on the edge of his sensibilities, where life and art are inextricably bound together. Van Gogh : a retrospective tells the story of the great Dutch artist as a single volume has never told it before, illuminating his work with a fascination selection of primary texts, including some of Van Gogh's letters. In 125 superb color reproductions and 103 black-and-white illustrations, the struggles and triumphs of Van Gogh's art are surveyed from the early dark landscapes and paintings of Dutch and Belgian laborers to the bright, intense visions of Paris, Arles, Saint Remy, and Auvers, where he took his life. Complementing the works are pertinent photographs from the period and portraits of the artist by Toulouse-Lautrec, Emile Bernard, Paul Gauguin, and others. Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who posthumously became one of the most famous and influential figures in Western art history. In a decade, he created about 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of which date from the last two years of his life. From Publishers Weekly "He did not paint his pictures; it was like he exhaled them in a gasping, boiling breath," one German critic aptly wrote of Van Gogh. Reminiscences of the artist by friends and passing acquaintances, letters from his brother Theo and appreciations by critics and artists make up the text of this handsomely packaged potpourri. For Margritte, the blind force of Van Gogh's obsessions made the tortured artist an unfree man. To Kokoschka, the tension in the painter's famous sunflowers and undulating cypresses speak of the fragility of an easygoing lifestyle in a mechanized age. Each artist seems to confront his or her own concerns when analyzing Van Gogh. Jean Renoir, Francoise Gilot, Gauguin and Klee are among the commentators. One hundred twenty-five superior color reproductions and 103 halftones remind us that Van Gogh could do a very formal Still Life with Coffeepot, a street scene ablaze with fauve-like color or the solemn, biblical Raising of Lazarus...

The Fashion Book takes a fresh look at the fashion world and the people who created and inspired it. Spanning almost 200 years, the entire industry is represented; from clothing and footwear designers, to photographers, stylists, icons and retailers, including the new category of educational institutions that have been fundamental in the careers of many of the creative individuals. Marking the significant changes on the fashion landscape since the first edition, this revision includes updates on existing entries as well as important new names who have fundamentally shaped the way we see fashion, from designers such as Nicholas Ghesquière, Gareth Pugh and Phoebe Philo, influential image makers Mert and Marcus and Mario Sorrenti, and contemporary icons Lady Gaga and Tilda Swinton, representing just a few of the many exciting new figures. New faces rub shoulders with the fashion pioneers of the original edition; such as Coco Chanel, Issey Miyake, Yves Saint Laurent, Kate Moss and Helmut Newton. In keeping in the reference style of the first edition, this new edition reflects a comprehensive view of the fashion industry today. Easy to use and filled with inspirational images, The Fashion Book is organized as an A-Z guide of names, listing 576 entries across the categories of clothing and accessory designers, photographers, institutions, models and those iconic individuals who instigated or symbolize a whole fashion movement. Cutting through the usual classifications, and organized alphabetically, the book creates unexpected juxtapositions that make fascinating and unlikely partnerships: the powerful Anna Wintour sits opposite the pioneer of modern fashion, Charles Worth while Terry Richardson rubs shoulders with Herb Ritts, and digital print wunderkind Mary Katranzou...
