Signed Pino Signoretto "Lovers" Sculpture Italian Glass Artist Scavo Technique
By Pino Signoretto
Located in St. Louis, MO
Italian glass master Pino Signoretto (1944-2017) signed "Lovers" sculpture with the Scavo technique, circa 1970s. Pino was a student of the master Alfredo Barbini, at 19 of age, he was already a Glass Master. Scavo technique gives it a texture as if it was ancient Roman glass, see description below. In very nice original condition, no damage.
Scavo means 'dug up' and imitates ancient objects in the form and texture to those found in archaeological excavations. During manufacturing, a mixture of several powders (carbonates nitrates, talc, silica, etc.) is dispersed on the glass surface. Then the object is heated up to 800-Celsius degrees.
Courtesy of Urbanglass:
One of the most famous and widely hailed glass masters in the world, Pino Signoretto, known for his incredible facility in sculpting from hot glass, died at the age of 74 on December 30th, 2017. Equally comfortable fabricating for international artists such as Salvatore Dali...

Hand-Sculpted French Cubist Abstract Sculpture in Terracotta Signed "Philip"
Located in New York, NY
This sophisticated and alluring Mid-Century Modern Sculpture was realized in France circa 1950. Executed in terra cotta with a oil rubbed bronze colored glaze, the work presents an abstract and dynamic form- bristling with verve. An elongated form rises from an elliptical base offering both smooth and curvilinear aspects as well as faceted ones concluding in a curved tongue-like appendage with a pointed end. Additionally, there is what appears to be a lug or nut cantilevering from side of the piece, suggesting metamorphosis or some kind of animatronic influence. The amorphic form recalls the highly stylized renderings of tools by Lee Lozano...
