Important and Magnificent set six chairs designed by the great French interior designer Renè Drouet from the 1930s, specifically from 1938. The set is an important composition of chairs also published in the 1938 Asembles Mobiliers catalog. Their frame is lacquered wood, with a freshly refreshed seat and back in white bouclé. The restoration that has taken place has not affected the originality of the seat at all, and its original form and interior have not been altered. Of great thickness, the chairs have an innovative design with soft shapes and rounded lines. In fact it may look like a contemporary line, but the French designer through these forms clearly anticipated the times! It can also be traced back to an innovative Renè Drouet Art Deco line, where the black wood typical of French Art Deco, highlights the futuristic soft lines. Its armrests made of tubular wood...

Tall elegant backs with curvilinear top crest and shield shape lower backrest, featuring elegant sculptural cabriole front legs and tapered splay back legs.
An inset nickeled bronze side bar flanks and accents the back rest, granting this chair a very unusual and unique style.
These chairs are skillfully designed, well crafted and of solid construction.
The cushion seats and backs in desert taupe/ mauve color naugahyde upholstery are in good vintage condition but are original and of the period.
The cushions are easily removable for re -upholstery if need be.

RENE PROU -- 1889-1948
Rene Prou was born in Nantes and educated in Paris. He was a furniture and a decorator who studied at the Ecole Bernard-Palissy in Paris.
Shortly thereafter, Prou joined the design house, Gouffé and became their chief designer. He was known as the first decorator of the modern taste.
