Mid-Century Modern S-37 chairs were originally designed by Anton Lorenz in 1929 and later manufactured by Gebruder Thonet in the 1970s. In 1929 Anton Lorenz founded the firm Desta (Deutsche Stahlmobel) in Berlin making Anton Lorenz the first to manufacture tubular-steel furniture on a commercial scale.

This is a beautiful set of 6 chairs in solid oak with rush seats. Honest and straight from the first owner, these chairs are the pinnacle of untouched mid Century Furniture. Beautiful and sturdy oak, combined with immaculate rush seats - due to the use of cushions over all these years. Great details like the turned legs and rods, the slightly bevelled edges and the pointy top ends of the back rests. Please also note the wonderful handmade iron nails and the very elegant overall design of these chairs.
Timeless and very elegant, these chairs will be beautiful in a Mid-Century Modern, natural or organic modern interior.
In great vintage condition - very good preserved.

What a gorgeous pair of Captain’s chairs by A. Brandt! This pair of armchairs is comprised of rustic solid ranch oak with an Acorn Brown finish that is signature to A. Brandt Company furniture. Acorn Brown was made by applying an oil stain before sealing the wood. After lacquering, Acorn Brown wax was applied. These chairs have a sturdy frame with solid oak stretchers between the base of the legs with carved design and seven double tapered back slats under the top rail that wrap around the base of the arms and seat. Simple and striking! These captain’s chairs are ready to grace your ranch style kitchen or dining table with a hand-hewn flair that only A. Brandt can create! They would be an awesome pair of host and hostess chairs at the ends of your dining table. A substantial find, I have never seen one of these let alone a suite of six, perfect for a gentleman’s club or the perfect height for luxury dining chairs
In terms of the condition they are circa 1860, hand carved from solid slabs of walnut, they have traces of the original varnish which has worn away over the decades to reveal the glorious timber patina. They have various small repairs here and there as you would expect
