Kho Liang Ie is among the most important Dutch designers of the Mid-Century. He has designed many beautiful pieces, mainly for Artifort, but also for a couple other companies, such as Stabin, the company that produced this model 703 chair. The chair features a tubular metal frame and the original bordeaux/red upholstery. Kho Liang Ie was born in Magelang, Indonesia in 1927. When he was is in his young twenties he moved to Holland to study at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. At the academy he studied design and interior architecture. After his study, he started working at Artifort as an advisor and designer of furniture. It was because of him Artifort became a leading design company at the international market. When working and overseeing business at Artifort he introduced new designers as Pierre Paulin and Geoffrey Harcourt. Together with those two designers he is still famous for his classic and important designs in the Dutch mid-century today.
