Tony Paul Tripod Wicker Stool, America, 1950s
By Tony Paul
Located in Utrecht, NL
Form and function collide in this stool, a piece of furniture that is often underestimated. Designers define stools as jewels and statements in a space, and taking practicality into account, this stool is perfect to add visual interest to any space. This authentic Tony Paul wicker and walnut stool is very versatile, serving double duty as a movable chair or a small table. Made of natural fibre, this stool was evidently constructed with great care. The wickerwork is carefully executed in a circular pattern with tightly woven rattan. Thanks to the expert technique, the rattan top is sturdy and stands the test of time. The pairing of rattan and wood is interesting and gives this stool an organic and stylish look. The tripod legs are carved from walnut with a minimalistic look that recall Scandinavian modernism. While there are many kinds of Tony Paul wicker stools, those produced in the mid-century are the highest regarded in terms of design. Being functional as well as aesthetically pleasing, this stool is a great addition to set the tone of a space. Paul’s design is strong but subtle, with expert wickerwork thanks to which it can add depth as well as functionality to a space. Condition: In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. Dimensions: 18.7 in ? x 17.32 in H 47.5 cm ? x 44 cm H About the Designer: American industrial designer Tony Paul was born in the Bronx, NY on February 28, 1918.
