Victorian Black Velvet and Silk Rose Mourning Bonnet w Velvet Ties - O/S, 1880s
Located in Tucson, AZ
Worn during the Victorian lady’s two-year mourning period, this petite hat telegraphed propriety and solemnity without sacrificing style. Featuring a stiff skullcap adorned with silk velvet bows and gathers, it is accentuated by silk ribbon roses. Best of all, despite its small size it can be perched on the head without the use of hat pins thanks to its velvet bonnet ties. Stiff Victorian half hat...

Rare Victorian Men's Silk Hand Embroidered Night Cap. 1890's.
Located in University City, MO
I picture this piece in a British stately home like Downton Abbey. The wearer is cosy in a red velvet wing chair in the library with a crackling fire and lots of leather bound books lining the shelves. A luxury dressing gown and red-soled slippers compete this look. I also see it in a high class opium den some where in Marrakesh. What an amazing handmade piece!!!!! Men's Victorian antique fashion rarely get's this on point! Black silk nightcap beautifully hand embroidered with a band of violet, creme, and pale orange, pansies. In the visual language of Victorian flowers, the pansy symbolized "loving thoughts". What a great gift for a loved one! Size: Inner circumference is 22 inches. Total height is 5 inches. The embroidered area is 3 inches. Condition is very good. No glaring issues to report. This is one of thpse vintage pieces that will never come again. A totally unique hand-made piece of men's vintage fashion history...

Amazing Victorian Alligator Hair Ornament/Brooch
Located in New York, NY
Amazing Victorian Alligator Hair Ornament/Brooch. Superb French manufacture, design and quality. Hand made in sterling silver with colored pastes and incredible miniature glass eyes with pupils! The Victorians were fascinated by all sorts of creatures such as lizards, bats and even mice. This is the first time we have seen an alligator motif from that time period especially designed a hair ornament. One has to wonder about the wearer (and the event) as this is certainly a unique, custom piece. We assume it was made for a costume or theme party which the Victorians (party animals) adored....perfect for a moonlit ride through the alligator filled canals at Viscaya (had it been built). Alligator unscrews from hair mechanism for use as brooch. 1880's France. Alligator 3.25" x 1". Hair pick...
