1967 Hermès "Ceres" Silk Twill Carre Scarf

About the Item

First issued in 1967 (our "Carré is most probably from that original edition), "Cerès" was designed by the talented Françoise Faconnet. Celebrating the Roman goddess of agriculture, harvest and fertility, our scarf is in a rarer colorway. In Roman mythology, her favor brought bountiful harvests and fruitful crops to mankind, while her wrath brought plague, drought and famine. Francoise Faconnet placed "Cerès" at the center of her design in a body made-up of grain-like textures. She is surrounded with the overflowing generosity and beauty of life, encased in a vivid purplish-bordeau border. Hand rolled edges. Original Hermès box not included. Wear it as a headscarf or artfully knot it around the neck ! Dimensions : approx. 90 x 90 cm (35.4 x 35.4 inches) This item has been professionally cleaned, pressed & carefully inspected by a couture-trained seamstress before being sold. N.B. : this scarf - of more than 50 years old - was once probably washed in water because the rosy color contained in the borders seems to have slightly tinted the off-white background. After a good dry cleaning by a specialist, this has been reduced.
