Born in the province of Forlì-Cesena, the son of a shoemaker who made made-to-measure shoes, at age 14 he entered the family store and produced, together with his brother Franco, sandals that in the summer would be sold with a banquet throughout on the riviera, from Riccione to Rimini, and in the boutiques of Bologna. He opened the plant in San Mauro Pascoli in 1951. The Sergio Rossi brand was bought in 1999 by the Gucci Group, but later both passed to the French group Kering de François Pinault. In December 2015 the Sergio Rossi brand was bought by Andrea Bonomi's Investindustrial fund.
