About the Item
June Carter was a distinguished singer, songwriter, author, actress, comedian, and philanthropist. Certainly a woman of many talents, Carter gained her fame in the 1950’s with upbeat country tunes like "Jukebox Blues" and Frank Loesser’s comic hit “No Swallerin’ Place.” In 1967, June Carter, with her would-be husband Johnny Cash, received a Grammy Award for the song "Jackson" in the Best Country and Western Performance by a Duo, Trio Or Group. In 1970 the couple won another Grammy for the song, “If I Were a Carpenter.”
With a style all her own, June Carter loved to tie fashion into her performance. She strived to embody her favorite decade—the 1920’s—often having pieces such as Victorian blouses and appliquéd dresses made for her. She added an eclectic flair to her country look, only further complementing her unparalleled natural grace.
June Carter was a longtime supporter of SOS Children’s Village, a non-governmental social development organization focusing on re-building families for children in need. A cause near and dear to her heart, June and her husband Johnny actively supported the construction of an SOS Children's Village near their vacation home in Barrett Town, Jamaica. June and Johnny also financed the first family house of the new SOS Children's Village.
Now, as a tribute to the late June Carter, Johnny Cash’s daughter Roseanne, in partnership with Post Script couture, is selling some of June’s beautiful vintage clothing. A portion of the profits will be donated to June’s favorite charity, SOS Childrens Villages and their efforts toward rebuilding homes that have been affected by the recent earthquake in Haiti.
