Y2K Silk Crepe and Wool Embroidered Boho Dress

About the Item

This is a very quirky and interesting premier boutique dress purchased by our client for a boho themed wedding in 2000. The main material is silk crepe in a pink - purple shade which is then embellished with knitted pastel coloured floral motifs and studded with little crystals and sequins. The dress is empire waisted with a knitted inverted waist band and the straight skirt has an tiered asymmetric hemline. It fastens to the side with an invisible zip. It is beautifully lined in a muslin cotton and remains in excellent, gently worn condition. The designers label has disappeared but the fabric composition labels remain and a size label in an Italian 44. This is a little smaller than modern sizing and now a best fit for a UK 10-12 or US 6-8. MEASUREMENTS Bust - 34 in. (86.4 cm) Waist - 30 in. (76.2 cm) Hip - 35 in. (88.9 cm) Length - 44.5 in. (113 cm) Shoulders - 16 in. (40.6 cm)

  • 1960s Jean Muir Silk Liberty Floral Print Dress with Scarf
    By Jean Muir
    Located in London, GB
This is a fine Jean Muir 1960s dress and matching tassel scarf and is without question, the best ensemble from this designer we have ever had in our collection. Early in her career, Muir worked with Liberty fabric and this striking psychedelic silk print could certainly be a Liberty design. It features a riot of bright purple, blue, orange, pink and green tones in a stylised paisley print. Each of the designs, contained in long rows of bands, is slightly different. The dress is a high shirtwaister design with an empire line bust, a low scoop neck and it fastens at the front with 18 fabric buttons and loops. There is a little upturned ruffle on the waistband and the skirt is gently gathered. The sleeves have a gathered cuff and upturned ruffle that echoes the waistline. The dress bodice is not lined; however, the skirt is lined in a quality pink viscose. Labelled a UK size 12, this is small in today's sizing and probably a better fit for a UK 8-10 or US 4-6. The accompanying scarf is a double thickness triangular shape with a row of hand tied purple tassels down one side. It is doubled sided with one print matching the dress while the other side is the same design but in a different colourway, focusing on blues, turquoises and orange. It's an absolutely beautiful piece worn alone or could could be styled either side to compliment or contrast the dress colourway. A very rare set indeed to find in superb vintage condition and from the very earliest part of Jean Muir's career. One for the serious collector, wearer of fine boho...

  • Documented 1982 Yves Saint Laurent multicolor striped dress
By Yves Saint Laurent, Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche
    Located in CULEMBORG, GE
When Yves Saint Laurent visited Morocco for the first time in 1966 it changed his life forever. Struck by its beauty he immediately acquired a house in Marrakech and stayed there at least two times a year to design his collections. Yves Saint Laurent once said: ‘Marrakech opened my eyes to color.’ The colors of the stained glass windows and beamed ceilings of the Bahia Palace in Marrakech are a perfect example what inspired him when designing this particular dress for his Rive Gauche collection that came out in 1982. The exciting mix of vivid colors Yves Saint Laurent used designing this dress have a pattern of vertical stripes in lively red, purple indigo, apple green and Dijon yellow alternated with thin black and white stripes. Adding a pussy bow and bishop sleeves gives the entire look an elegant feel. The high quality silk is in a very good vintage condition and has been professionally cleaned and pressed. The state of this unique Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche dress is very good, only a small piece of the original mother-of-pearl button left hand button has chipped off (see the last photograph), but can be easily replaced. As you wish we can replace this with a new button without charging extra costs. The dress that was also featured in Vogue magazine in a 1982 Yves...
