1950s Worth Couture Ivory And Fawn Lace Net Dress With Petticoat

About the Item

This enchanting 1950s couture dress in ivory and fawn net lace is by the iconic House of Worth's London branch and unsurprisingly, showcases some truly magnificent construction. The dress has a classic 50s prom style aesthetic and features a fitted bodice with a V neckline, capped sleeves and a show stopping skirt made up of 6 layers of netting and a starched crinoline petticoat. The ivory net overlay hosts a floral design in pale fawn that could be polkadots at a glance, contrasted with panels of fawn lace in a bouquet design on the waistband and hem of the skirt. The interior of the dress is beautifully structured, with tailoring inside the bodice to accentuate and elevate the bust. There is a zip fastening at the centre reverse partially concealed by the overlay which is secured with dainty popper fastenings. In truly excellent vintage condition, this is a rare and collectable piece of exceptional quality. Would best suit a US size 2-4, UK size 6-8. Please note the dress is unlabelled but came direct from a family descendant and we have many more dresses from this individual with both couture and ready to wear labels attached. Often extolled as the father of haute couture, fashion historian George Walden has said: "Charles Frederick Worth dictated fashion in France a century and a half before Galliano". He was the first to use live models to showcase his garments and the first to sew branded labels into his clothing. He is also widely recognised as the father of Haute Couture.
