This is a sensational vintage 1980's Norma Kamali dress in a beautiful black satin taffeta. Norma Kamali often used the Victorian era as inspiration for her clothing and she was able to do it with a unique twist. Many designers today are trying to do this look, evoking Wednesday Addams vibes, but we think that no one did it quite as well as Kamali. This dress is particularly special because it is a perfect example of her unique talent.
We love having Norma Kamali pieces in our collection because she helped defined the look of the 1980's and is continuing to define modern fashion. By rediscovering the shoulder pads of the 1940's and by using unconventional materials like sweatshirt fleece in high end clothing, Kamali secured her place as one of the original fashion history influencers. From the red swimsuit she designed that put a Farrah Fawcett poster in every adolescent boy's bedroom to her parachute silk dresses and sleeping bag coats, she deserves to be recognized for her contributions to fashion.
This dress is in beautiful black satin taffeta and it closes with a side zipper and a sewed in sash. The dress has a V shaped drop waist, a stand up collar, and gathered, slightly puffed long sleeves. Depending on your height, the dress hits at the ankle, and it perfect to twirl in on the dance floor!
