Black and Fuchsia Rosebud and Rhinestone Yawn-Pocket Ballerina Dress –L, 1950s

About the Item

A modern vintage masterpiece, this ladylike frock is loaded with charming extras (our favorite is the pocket detail: decorative AND practical) that keep its timeless silhouette from becoming stuffy. If the yawning pockets and dimensional rosebuds don't garner enough attention, the voluminous rustling skirt certainly will! Match accessories to the rosebuds for a playful alternative to black. Sleeveless circle dress with silk velvet cording at neckline, arm holes and pockets; massive fold-over yawning pockets each hip. Front bodice and pocket points feature rhinestone sprinkles and 3-D appliqué rosebuds. Bust darts, front and back princess seams at bodice, and matching belt*. Rear metal zipper closure; hanging loops. Unlined. fabric: rayon taffeta noteworthy: dry clean only alterations: reinforced seams and pocket joins condition: very good with three pinprick holes at rear left hip; belt is in good condition with gentle creases and small tear at tightest hole measurements: neckline opening: 12” across shoulders: 16” from outer shoulder edge to edge (straps 2” at narrowest) bust: 42” waist: 28” bodice length: 15” from shoulder, 8 ½” from underarm hips: free skirt length: 30” total length: 45” from shoulder; 38 ½” from underarm sweep: 216” belt: ¾” wide x 34” long; adjustable from 29” – 31 ½” label: no label present size: no size tag present; comparable to modern size large *please note belt is not original to dress but will be included in sale

By Gianni Versace Couture, Gianni Versace

Gianni Versace was an influential Italian fashion designer who founded the Versace brand. In the fall of 1997, he presented his couture collection in Paris, which was widely acclaimed for its opulent fabrics, bold prints, and intricate detailing. The collection featured several notable pieces, such as a black evening gown with a plunging neckline and a gold-encrusted jacket. However, just a few days later, on July 15th, 1997, Gianni was tragically murdered outside his Miami Beach home. Despite his untimely death, his contributions to the world of fashion continue to be celebrated, and his legacy remains an inspiration too many. This collection is iconic as it’s the final collection before his passing. The collection very much showed a new direction for the house. Which was heading away from the bombshell curves and souped-up sex appeal that the house previously focussed on. But took more Inspirations to the new wave John Galliano and Mcqueen were leading.
