Jacques Cassia Haute Couture Taupe Brocade Corolle Tulip Skirt Dress - S, 1960s

About the Item

Though his work has only recently begun to be appreciated, Lebanese designer Jacques Cassia was a familiar face among the jet-setting haute monde in the 1960s and 70s. This dress from the early 1960s is an extremely rare example of his early work, which paid homage to Dior's "corolle" designs; sculptural, refined and elegant it is a work of fashion art. Sleeveless scoop neck cocktail dress with deeply pleated, cutaway-panel faux wrap skirt lined in heavyweight pellon for stiff, “stand-away” silhouette. Looped self bow at left hip and stiff self belt with rear hook at loop closure. Rear zipper closure with top hook and loop; bodice lined in acetate.
