Vintage 1997 Galindo Couture Black Devoré Velvet Bias-Cut Halter Trained Gown

A super seductive and incredibly rare Galindo Couture "Where Angels Rest" black devoré silk-velvet trained gown dating back to fall/winter 1997. This incredible custom couture dress was made for actress Melanie Griffith. The fabric used to create this gown is sensational; rich black devoré silk-velvet in the most magnificent large-scale deco swirl motif. I love the front halter style plunge which flows into the prettiest low backside. The flattering trained bias-cut is such a beautiful nod to 1930's fashion which was made very popular during this time due to John Galliano's vintage inspired collections for Christian Dior. It also makes sense that this gorgeous gown would have such a perfect vintage feel as the designer Elizabeth Galindo was also a fashion historian and costume design consultant for cinema. She studied under master embroiderers at the legendary Lesage Embroidery House in Paris, earning a certificate in 16th century embroidery techniques. She was also chosen among many candidates for one of the first paid internships at the Salvatore Ferragamo and Roberto Cavalli silk screening studios. "People don't really know what goes into making a couture piece," she once said. "Most dresses take 25 hours to make and all are hand-whipped on the inside, the way couture gowns of the '20s and '30s were made." Her clients were true Hollywood elite like Sophia Loren, Sharon Stone and Cate Blanchett so you know her work is of the highest caliber.
