Dolce & Gabbana
Shapely lingerie models, animal and floral prints and the Mediterranean heritage of Sicily have come to define the romantic and sensual style of Dolce & Gabbana, a leading international brand that from its earliest days of corsetry, copious lace and provocative silhouettes has challenged fashion with an audacious vision for femininity.
After meeting in Milan in 1980 while they were both working for Italian designer Giorgio Correggiari, Domenico Dolce (b. 1958) and Stefano Gabbana (b. 1962) would go on to establish their eponymous fashion empire in 1982. Three years later, a breakthrough for the duo materialized in the form of an up-and-coming talent showcase at Milan Fashion Week, where they unveiled an approach to fashion design that broke sharply from that of the era’s reigning Italian houses. By then romantic partners as well as a business, Dolce & Gabbana were outsiders. Soon, their distinctive garments — sexy, feathery skirts and stretchy jersey evening dresses that favored full figures — demanded the fashion world’s undivided attention.
Though Dolce & Gabbana forged a path in womenswear that would take shape with a 1986 collection called “Real Women,” the brand’s offerings broadened quickly to encompass knitwear, swimwear, lingerie, ready-to-wear, menswear and perfume. In the early 1990s, Madonna helped catapult the luxury house to international stardom: The renowned singer and actress famously tapped the brand to create the looks for her 1993 tour “The Girlie Show.” It saw Madonna working closely with the designers and even starring in their ad campaigns. Dolce & Gabbana has continued to develop a high-profile clientele that includes pop sensations such as Beyoncé and Lady Gaga. The latter donned Dolce & Gabbana’s armor corset dress in the music video for her hit single “Paparazzi.”
Rather than following the rapidly changing trends of fashion, Dolce & Gabbana have instead held to their close-fitting tailoring and decadent designs. The house continues to work with recurring themes such as the culture of Italy and Catholicism, which is manifest, specifically, in their widespread use of black lace, a fabric that references the dresses worn by Sicilian widows. The duo is also inspired by Italian cinema and its icons such as Gina Lollobrigida and Sophia Loren; in 2015 they introduced the Sophia No. 1 lipstick in her honor.
Although Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana separated as a couple in 2005, they continued their business as a creative partnership. In 2012, they closed their less expensive D&G ready-to-wear line to focus on exclusive extravagance, such as their Alta Moda custom pieces. Today, Dolce & Gabbana maintains a popularity with a wealthy clientele, and the house’s 2020s collections have featured technological experiments that update traditional styles, such as a bouclé jacket with a pixel-like pattern, as well as throwbacks to the 1990s fashion that made the brand a household name.

- A/W 1982 Azzedine ALAÏA First Ready-To-Wear Collection Black Leather JacketBy Azzedine AlaïaLocated in Munich, DE"When I design a garment, I am not looking to affirm a particular style. I think of the women who will wear it. I believe that I can say about my clothes that they are impossible to date, they are made to last." – Azzedine Alaïa Throughout his career, the designer sought to perfect his vision of timeless beauty. And “his unique sense of the body and body dressing started an ongoing revolution,” noted Vogue in 1986. This instantly recognizable and museum-held (Palais Galliera, Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris) leather jacket is from Autumn/Winter 1982, Azzedine Alaïa's very first ready-to-wear collection and thus a truly special, very rare and collectible piece of fashion history. The collection was officially presented at Bergdorf Goodman in New York in September 1982 and an instant success. The jacket is made in France from extraordinarily soft and supple black leather and features the signature fitted waist, a low shawl collar and dramatic oversized side hip pockets that continue on the back. The design has wide sleeves that narrow towards the cuffs with a short zip at the wrist. One chest pocket with a silver coloured zip. The back shows a striking seam detailing. Press stud closure at the front. Fully lined in black acetate. Tagged a French vintage size 40. Runs slightly smaller. The jacket comes from a couture client and has not been on the market prior to this. Very good vintage condition. The bottom half of the lining of the left sleeve was replaced by a trained couture seamstress. Not visible from outside. Shoulders: 49 cm – 19.29" (dropped seam to seam) Bust: 90 cm – 35.43" (under the arms from side seam to side seam) Waist: 75 cm – 29.53" Hips: 102 cm – 40.16" Sleeve length: 61 cm – 24.02" (measured from real shoulder) Length: 73 cm – 28.74" Measurements are taken flat and then doubled for bust, waist and hips. - 1989 MOSCHINO COUTURE Red Blue Venice Gondolier Jacket Cruise Me Baby CollectionBy Moschino, Moschino CoutureLocated in Munich, DEEarly Moschino pieces designed by Franco Moschino himself – often referred to as Italian fashion's "enfant terrible" – within the short period when he launched the House of Moschino in 1983 until he passed away in 1994 are sought after and highly collectible. This treasure, like several others that are already available in my shop and more to be listed gradually, comes direct from a German socialite and fashion collector so has not been on the market prior to this. The stunning Spring/Summer 1989 Moschino Couture jacket is part of Franco Moschino's coveted "Cruise me Baby" collection and a wearable collectors item that will only increase in value. Franco Moschino once said in a 1994 interview with British GQ: “Funny clothes have to be extremely well made because that is where you find the chic." This design is a perfect example of his outstanding skills. The spectacular jacket, inside and out, is a love letter to the city of Venice. When designing this jacket Franco Moschino obviously had the typical Venetian gondolier's dress code in mind – a red/white or blue/white striped T-shirt. It captures the fun vibe that Moschino has always represented as a brand. The cropped design features a slightly fitted bodice which is horizontally red/white-striped at front and appliquéd with two black stylized gondola prows, a symbol of Venice, that are not just ornamental but have a hidden meaning. To name just one, the metal lines correspond to the number of the Sestieri (districts) of Venice. Accentuated with gold braiding, the jacket closes with a row of spherical gold metal buttons at center front. The back is monochrome red. The elbow-length sleeves are diagonally Venice-blue/white-striped and showcase wide red gold braided cuffs that are embellished with the winged lion – THE symbol of the Serenissima – holding a book below its paw with the sentence "I ♡ VENICE" written in it. I love that the lining is as beautiful as the outside of the jacket! It features colourful scenes of St. Mark's Square – the Doge's Palace, the Campanile, the two large granite columns, one surmounted by the iconic bronze winged lion sculpture and the other one by St. Theodore of Amasea. How luxurious is that? The matching Moschino Venice...Category

- ISSEY MIYAKE S/S 1991 Documented Runway 'Dinosaur' Sleeves Black Silk JacketBy Issey MiyakeLocated in Munich, DEImportant and rare documented Spring/Summer 1991 black 'Dinosaur' silk jacket by Issey Miyake as presented on the runway. The twin of this jacket walked the runway in several colours and fabrics. Versions of it are part of various fashion museums worldwide such as The Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and the Powerhouse Collection of the MAAS Museum in Sydney. The linen model was photographed by renowned fashion photographer Irving Penn and is shown in the book "Irving Penn regards the work of Issey Miyake" published by Bulfinch. Please see the reference pictures and send us a note for a video sequence of the fashion show. Designed under the eye of Issey Miyake himself this stunning black silk jacket features a simple yet complex cut based on origami Japanese folding techniques. Both front and back are expertly pleated. Yet the star of this design are the long sleeves that are folded and pressed in such a way to create a zig zag line along the top of the sleeve which is reminiscent of a dinosaur's jagged back. The use of silk gazar is the perfect choice for this garment as the fabric combines qualities of delicacy with a gentle stiffness which is required to maintain the folded fabric form. The jacket is unlined and buttons up the center front. Labelled "Issey Miyake" and tagged a Japanese vintage size M. The jacket was purchased in 1991 by my couture client in Munich, Germany, and has not been on the market prior to this. Excellent vintage condition. Bust: 104 cm – 40.94" Waist: 82 cm – 32.28" Length: 53 cm – 20.87" Measurements for bust and waist are taken flat across from side seam to side seam and then DOUBLED. - JEAN PAUL GAULTIER A/W 1985-1986 Green Quilted & Padded Satin CoatBy Jean Paul GaultierLocated in Munich, DEThis is one of Jean Paul Gaultier's rare and runway presented quilted satin coats from his A/W 1985-1986 collection. I am happy to have found documentation of different-coloured twins of this design walking the runway of that year. Please see the reference photos. The very elegant long coat features a flared cut and wide lapels. It is meant to be worn oversized. Fully padded with a beautiful organic shaped quilting. Love that the reverse of the lapels and the inside of the sleeves' cuffs is quilted into squares. The long loose sleeves can be worn either turned-down or turned-up showing that differing quilting. Two patch pockets. The design has no closure and is fully lined in a black silky satin with tonal tiny dots. Labelled "Jean Paul Gaultier pour Gibo' Made in Italy" and tagged a French vintage size 42. Due to its cut and open front it will fit a variety of sizes. Extremely well-made, this coat is a collectible and wearable piece of fashion history! The coat belonged to one of my couture clients from Munich, Germany, and has not been on the market prior to this. Excellent vintage condition. Bust: 136 cm – 53.54" Lapels width: 24,5 cm – 9.65" Sleeve length: 53 cm – 20.87" Length: 143 cm – 56.3" All measurements are taken flat. Bust measurement across from side seam to side seam and then DOUBLED.
