About the Item

The French master of classic 'restrained' design, Jean-Louis Scherrer, creates a 1980's velvet suit with a nod to Elizabethan styles including voluminous mutton sleeves. Though the silhouette may be reminiscent of the Tudor era, the fabric has more of a 1970's 'rich hippie' look with a tie dye effect in lovely shades of royal blues and purples with a touch of vibrant peacock blue. The jacket sports a tab collar, covered buttons at the front and sleeve cuffs as well as a peplum form. The simple coordinating skirt hooks and zips at the back. Both pieces are lined and a rhinestones encrusted belt ties everything together at the waist. CONDITION Good vintage condition with some discoloration at the jacket lining across the shoulder presumably from a hanger ... shown in photograph 13 and cannot be seen on the outside of the jacket. The belt facing has become unglued as shown in photograph 15 and could be restored or update the look with a contemporary belt. One of the small rhinestones is missing from the belt buckle. The suit has been professionally cleaned and is ready for wear. SIZING & MEASUREMENTS The sizes are not marked though the suit best fits U.S. sizes 8- 10 with attention to the following measurements taken with the jacket buttoned. For visual reference, the mannequin in the photographs is a size 4 and the jacket, in particular, was too large. The original owner wore sizes 8 - 10. The oval buckle measures 2.25" tall x 2" wide.
