Chinese Neolithic Yangshao Culture Painted Pottery Amphora, circa 3500 BC

About the Item

A rustic Chinese Neolithic bronze age pottery amphora with painted geometric design, Yangshao Culture (5000-3000 BC), circa 3500 BC, China. The vessel of amphora form, with a narrow neck and two strap handles. The body of baluster form, with high, rounded shoulders, sloping down to a flat, narrow foot. The body painted in black pigment with large, geometric patterned band. Another band of geometric design decorates the narrow neck. A pair of small strap handles attached to the center of the rounded body. The underside with a collection number.
