Kamakura Period Japanese Shinzu sculpture. Shinzo is a representational figure of a god or spirit in the Shinto religion. This sculpture was carved from a single piece of hinoki wood, a process that is called ichiboku zukuri. Late Heian (794 to 1185) / early Kamakura period (1185 to 1333) sculpture.
