Pair of Japanese Bronze Vases

About the Item

Meiji period pair of Japanese Bronze Vases Finely Cast with High Relief decoration figures of a 3 clawed Dragon and 2 striped tigers and bamboo on the globular body of each vase. The numerous etched anatomical details such as the mane and the scales of the mythical beast only add to the striking effect of these extraordinary pieces. The neck and the base are adorned with a frieze of geometrical design. The dragons face each other when both vases are paired. The vases are attributed to the artist Yoshida of Kyoto in the 19th century and have a mark underneath the base. Yoshida's Kyoto bronze ware workshop was well known for producing items of extremely high quality. His work was shown at the 1876 International Exhibition in Philadelphia. This pair of Japanese bronze vases with their finely cast and well balanced protruding figures, would bring an exquisite oriental accent to any home. These are decorative vases, and are not fully watertight.
