A Set of Ordos Culture Gold Plaques

About the Item

A group of thirteen Ordos Culture gold repousse plaques. Originally intended as clothing ornaments, these highly detailed plaques feature various motifs, such as ibexes, dragons, bulls, humans, insects and celestial objects all grouped in an elaborate dance. The Ordos culture was a Bronze Age group inhabiting the area of present day Inner Mongolia. Primarily a nomadic group of peoples, they had contact with Central Asian, Chinese, and Eurasian cultures, as evidenced in their artwork. On view during our special Asia Week exhibition, March 2013. Showplace Antique and Design Center Gallery 227 40 W. 25th St. NY, NY 10010
