19th Century Chinese Famille Rose Enamelled Porcelain Basin, Qing Period

About the Item

A very attractive 19th century Chinese 'famille rose' porcelain basin, the deep welled interior decorated with hand painted enamels depicting flowering vines & fowl, rising up to a flattened rim decorated with a running band of enamelled flower blossoms & scrolls, one minor flake to the rim. The exterior decorated with designs of bamboo sprigs in coral red, viewed as symbolic of the virtues extolled by bamboo in Chinese culture, which is that of resistance, modesty & loyalty. The underside unmarked but likely Guangxu Period (1875-1908), possibly earlier.
