19th Century Japanese Porcelain Imari Plate with Painted Blue and White Décor
About the Item
A Japanese Imari porcelain plate from the 19th century, with hand-painted blue and white mountain, tree, architecture and bridge décor. Created in Japan during the 19th century, this Imari porcelain plate features a delicate blue and white décor depicting an artistic, balanced landscape arrangement: a majestic mountain on the left is concealing the presence of a discreet building, flanked by a tree. The diagonal of a rocky formation in the foreground, following the lines of the coast, is leading our eyes to the curving bridge on which two small figures are standing. Accented with small calligraphy, the plate is adorned with the top of a mountain in the background. Imari is a style of porcelain named after the Japanese port from which it was shipped from, beginning in the late 17th century. The plate has a mark on its back. Bordered by a scalloped edge adorned with flowers, foliage and birds, this 19th century Japanese hand-painted Imari porcelain plate will make for a lovely addition to any home décor, perhaps placed on a commode, side table or console!
