19th Century Southern Chinese Painted Ceramic Bathtub from Annan with Greek Key

About the Item

A 19th century Southern Chinese handmade and painted ceramic oval bathtub with Greek key frieze, birds and foliage motifs. Born possibly in the southern province of Annan near the Vietnam border, this 19th century ceramic bathtub features a reddish brown exterior contrasting greatly with the gilded patterns and light green color of the interior. Just below the rim, the upper section of the body is adorned with a Greek key frieze. The belly is adorned with gilded motifs depicting flying birds and palm leaves in a typically Chinese style. This southern Chinese 19th century handmade and painted ceramic bathtub will add an exotic touch in most rooms, particularly in a living room where it could be used as a planter or jardinière.
