About the Item
A fine antique signed Japanese Imari porcelain bowl.
In the form of a shaped bowl with a plum-like shape.
Decorated throughout with exquisitely detailed painted or enameled decoration, blue underglaze decoration, and extensive gilding.
Marked to the base with Hichozan / Made by Fukagawa (??????)
In the Meiji period the Hichozan-shinpo-sei brand name was used by several Arita porcelain makers such as Fukagawa porcelain as well as other products of the Mikawachi kilns that were exported as Hirado wares. The distinction between Fukagawa and Hirado tends to blur after the beginning of the Meiji (1868 - 1913) era when greater attention is started to focus on exports. Hichozan-shinpo-sei was made in the short period of time at the end of Edo period (1603 - 1867), in the Mikawachi kilns and hand painted in Arita .
