Chinese Ceramic Guangzhou Medicine Company 'Apothecary' Jar, Early 20th Century

About the Item

At the turn of the 20th century Chinese medicine businesses were highly successful enterprises, the vast majority of these operating out of Guangzhou. This lidded container was used to transport medicinal herbs and spices. The flat lid and barrel shaped structure made them practical for stacking. It features the company name on its front and an engraved rectangular frame to display a label. The jar has a stunning blue/green glaze that fluctuates under various lighting.
