Pair of 19th Century Japanese Imari Vases with French Bronze Mounts

About the Item

This gorgeous pair of 19th century Japanese Imari vases are beautifully hand-painted in the classic Imari colors of blue, terra cotta, gold and white. The pair features a Foo dog handle on each top, and detailed bronze work throughout. Note the patterned bronze attaching the top to the base, the ring handle on each side of each vase, and the unique bronze footed bases, which are unusually cast in the shape of a classic carved rose wood base. The piece is part of the collection from The French Antique Shop, a fourth generation antique store in the heart of the French Quarter of New Orleans. A space that was created and curated at first by Marie and Marcelle and Granet. Their first shop was located in the heart of Paris, and opened in 1919 after they migrated to Paris from Romania post World War I. Shortly after establishing themselves in Paris, as a Jewish family they were forced to flee in the late 1930s before World War II. Marie and Marcel opened up their shop in New Orleans in 1939, the city in which this antique collection has grown and continues to flourish. The store is now run by the third and fourth generation, Marc, Michael, and Brian Friedlander, and is a highly curated space filled with rare antiquities, fine antique lighting, eclectic fixtures, and everything in between. We have imported all the antique items in our collection directly from France.
