- Pair of Chinese Celadon Garden SeatsLocated in Katonah, NYThe shape! The color! We are delighted to offer this pair of Chinese celadon garden seats. These sleek hexagonal garden seats are covered in a light green glaze with a jade-like luster. The soft celadon color evokes the liveliness of bamboo, a popular plant viewed as a metaphor for perseverance. On each of the six sides of the seat is a design of raised bamboo stalks. The top of each seat is decorated with a single pierced coin decoration, a beloved traditional motif symbolizing wealth and abundance. It has been frequently seen on garden seats since the Ming dynasty. The 20th-century artist simplified this ancient form to make pieces that would also be at home in a contemporary setting. The streamlined shape recalls the style of Art Deco or Mid-Century Modernism - as does the color. While initially made as outdoor seats...Category
