Satsuma Japanese Meiji Pair Diamond Shaped Pottery Vases
About the Item
A good and unusual pair antique Japanese Satsuma Meiji diamond shaped pottery vases decorated with monk figures with a scrolling dragon dating from the 19th century. The vases stand raised on four simple scroll feet with a four sided diamond shaped body with a narrow similar shaped neck above a an angled shoulder with a square edged rim. The vase is decorated with various monk figures set within a landscape with a scrolling dragon hand painted in colored enamels and extensively highlighted with gilding. The vases both have makers marks to the base reading Satsuma Dai Nippon.
Provenance: acquired in the British Art Market.
In good condition with wear associated with age and use.
