Antique Chinese Large Camphor Fur Chest on a Base with Hidden Wooden Rollers
About the Item
Of rectangular form, the chest with wood of smoothly-grained texture, warn tone and attractive patina, round brass lock plate set flush, mounted with the front continuing over the lid, the top lid lifting open to an interior with an open storage space, bail handle on either side, sitting on a base stand relief-carved on the front with scrolling floral, foliage and rectangular scroll motifs and fitted with hidden wooden rollers for easy moving.
Camphor wood has been used mainly for storing clothes, scroll paintings & calligraphy, and valuables due to its insect-repelling properties.
