Antique Chinese Six Post Canopy Bed in Solid Ju Mu, Chinoserie, Suzhou
About the Item
The bed bse frame enclosing a cane top and decorated with wrapped-around lipped molded edges and spandrels, supported on circular-sectioned legs; the six posts braced on the back and sides by railings of fretwork, two short railings flanking the opening to the bed, with lattice work of an upside down “fu” (symbol of fortune arriving) on the right side and “shou” (symbol of longevity) on the left side, the upper frieze with a series of open-carved frames braced in the centre with a lingzhi fungus (symbol of longevity).
