Antique Fully Carved Scholar's Cabinet

About the Item

This rare, magnificent, fully carved cabinet was a scholar's treasure chest. Hand-painted oval door panels depict the leisure lives of fisherman and a strolling scholar. Fully carved facades showcase scenes from an opera of a victorious historic battle, a favorite theme in ancient China. Spectacular details include the flags, fans, horses, armors, crowns. Realistic facial features and vivid expressions can be found on their miniature 1/2" faces. Magpie and deer are symbols of happiness. Pomegranate symbolizes family. This cabinet showcases extraordinary craftsmanship and unsurpassed superiority of wood carver's skill. The two-tiered, eight-drawer, full-capacity cabinet has an original, removable vertical center bar with its own locking peg to ensure doors stay shut at the same time help preventing theft. Beautifully embossed hardware were chosen to adorn the cabinet. A truly exceptional work of art. Solid wood. Tenons and mortises. Hand-carved.
