Chinese Ming Form Painting Table, c. 1800

About the Item

This Qing-dynasty painting table from Hunan province is a beautiful example of the elegance of Chinese furniture design. With its broad surface ideal for contemplating scrolls and paintings, the table likely once resided in a scholar's studio, specially selected for its refined proportions. Exemplifying Ming-dynasty restraint, the table has clean, austere lines with simple "horse-shoulder" form legs and is largely without decoration to showcase the richly textured elmwood grain. Additional dimensions: Table apron to floor: 31".
