Fine Dutch Colonial Djati Bench, First Half of the 18th Century

About the Item

A fine small Indonesian, possibly Ambonese, Djati wood bench First half of the 18th century The back splat elaborately carved in scrolling foliate and floral motif, the plain, caned, seat resting on four curved legs ending in lion's paws. Measures: H. 96 x W. 115 x D. 63.5 cm Note: The carvings in the legs, feet and the back rail of this settee are quite similar to those in a larger settee from Hutumuri in the island of Ambon now in the Collection of the Tropenmuseum Amsterdam (see Jan Veenendaal, Furniture from Indonesia, Sri Lanka an India, Pl. 92).
