Fractal Bench

About the Item

This customizable bench by John Brevard is made from solid wire brushed teakwood and hand-welded zinc in an ancient fractal viking pattern. Teakwood is one of the strongest woods on earth and is highly resistant to moisture and wood rot, making this bench perfect for indoors and outdoors. The John Brevard Viking bench features a large hidden locked compartment for storage. Functional and unique, this bench is perfect for a special home or office. About the materials: Zinc is essential for the environment. Zinc is a natural element and plays an essential role in the biological processes of all humans, animals and plants. Zinc is an essential micronutrient for human health. Zinc can be recycled infinitely without loss of properties and quality. In addition to being sustainable during use, zinc also plays an important role during the end-of-life phase by reducing energy use, lowering emissions and minimizing waste disposal. In Brevard’s pieces, zinc provides high structural integrity and outstanding corrosion resistance. A thin layer of resin is applied to the table to seal the zinc and enhance comfort on skin. Teakwood has long been prized for its durability and versatility. Long used for furniture and decoration by elites in its native Southeast Asia, teakwood then made its way to Europe by way of Dutch merchants. In the west, it’s often used for shipbuilding, due to its hardness and ability to withstand humidity and ward off dry rot. Unlike more common woods such as pine and oak, teak retains its natural oils and rubber even after being felled and processed. Because of this, teak has greater naturally weather-resistant properties than almost all other wood. The oils and rubber effectively weatherproof the wood, making teak an ideal choice for outdoor furniture. The wood is also naturally protected from dry rot and from fungi and parasites that can destroy other woods. Given the long growth period of teak (typically 80 years until maturation), Brevard uses sustainably cultivated teak without irrigation or fertilizers for this collection in order to protect earth’s natural habitat. All pieces are made with the highest quality teak from the heart of the tree to ensure maximum durability and versatility.
