Rare Chinese Buddhist Altar Table, Yuan Dynasty, 14th Century

About the Item

Rare Chinese Buddhist altar table made from bai-mu cypress wood with an elaborate, deeply carved and pierced relief. It also features a floral apron and scroll form feet,. The wood has been worn smooth over time and has a rich warm patina, which has been given a natural wax finish. It dates from the Yuan Dynasty, 14th century. Materials: Bai mu cypress.

    Replacements made: Drawer front panels recently replaced (two drawers, three panels). it has also been given a natural wax finish to condition the wood. Wear consistent with age and use. Altar is in good condition for its age though the drawers and panels above the carved and pierced floral frieze have been replaced within the last 10 years, structurally piece is original.
