Japanese Lacquered Altar Table, Showa Period, Mid-20th Century

About the Item

A Japanese lacquered altar table, Showa period, 1937. Teak and Cedar, lacquered in read and black on the outside. Exquisitely carved dragon design in the front and back. The top is detachable, to reveal an inner compartment. The black-lacquered top presents some wood warping, probably due to age and use. Some minor losses throughout the gilt finish are also present. Signed and dated at the bottom, August 1937.
