Antique Hindu Make Up Brass Box with Peacocks
About the Item
Antique Hindu make up vermilion and eye liner brass box holder.
This is an antique Mughal style brass Indian ornate locking Tikka box container.
It has six compartments that lock in, by the peacock in the middle being screwed in.
Ideally used to store make up in colorful powders for ceremonial Hindu beauty rituals.
Peacock shape handcrafted cast brass Kum Kum powder Tikka box with peacock figures and elephants.
Handcrafted in solid brass by artisans in Uttar Pradesh, India.
Unique star shape brass box used for keeping the vermilion and khol powder for Tika.
This antique storage box has six heart shaped containers with hinged lids and finials in the form of peacock, which each open and close independently.
The main finial is a peacock which is a sacred Indian bird. The finial unscrews releasing the lids.
The base has 5 feet in the form of elephant on which the metal caddy rests upon.
The Peacock, is believed to be a divine symbol of pride and beauty.

This mixture of ingredients when prepared and placed in the mouth for long periods gives the user a mild aphrodisiac affect. The preparation of the betel nut with lime stored in ornate boxes with several smaller internal containers was popular all over Asia and is still a common practice in Myanmar and India and among the hill tribes of many S. E. Asian countries. Engraved with intricate designs on the lid which has a carved floral design handle and a latch in front for opening or closing the box and for safekeeping.
