Japanese Four Panel Screen: Horses in Stable Setting, Edo period painting (17th century) of a very popular samurai subject matter. Samurai were highly skilled equestrians and took pride in their horses, and therefore horses often appear in artwork related to samurai or noblemen. Horses in stable was a subject matter was introduced in the late 16th / early 17th century. Artist name on the reverse reads "Tosa Munesada". Mineral pigments on mulberry paper with a silk brocade border.
